Salty dogs

FOOD TREND ALERT!

When the economy is in the tank, NYC foodies turn to simpler (read, less expensive) ingredients and fads to get their kicks. Well, it doesn’t get simpler than salt. Here’s the best of the best in a town that’s suddenly got a bad case of NaCl fever.

Strand Salt $9

Strand Bookstore
The world famous bookstore opened a small cafe space in November and prominently features a shaker of this Arabian sea blend to douse your “Bolano Burger” with. We think it’s the best optional salt shaker in town.

El Diablo $11

Txxixoo
Adam Rajo layers this beautifully proportioned salt with a blend of chili powder and dehydrated Cheeze Whiz™ from the Westchester county.

Artisanal Blend $13

Buck Naked
This classically chaste salt blend (a mix of celery salts and smelling salts) is a perfect compliment to a “Bare-Ass” Bloody Mary.

AROD and Kate $14

Bobby’s Bar & Grill
This Gramercy joint puts salt and pepper in one shaker. Perfect on boneless Mozzerella di Bufala wings.

Black Label Blend $36

MacDougal Tavern
Why pay $36 for salt? Well when the shaker is made from a hallowed out truffle and has bits of dried alligator roe tossed in, you’ll never want to put anything on your pulled porcupine po boy again.
